Family Photographer
Melbourne

Your family, photographed the way it actually is.

Not lined up against a wall, told to say cheese. A morning at the park. The kids mid-laugh. The grandparents in the middle of it all. I photograph families the same way I photograph weddings — documentary first, with a magazine-quality finish — so the photos you hang on the wall look like your family, not like a photo studio.

A family photoshoot in Melbourne, without the stress

Most families dread the photoshoot more than they should. Someone’s worried the toddler won’t cooperate. Someone hates being in photos. Someone just wants it over with.

A session with me doesn’t work like that. We pick a place your family is comfortable — your home, a favourite park, the beach, anywhere across Melbourne — and then you spend an hour being yourselves while I work around you. The best family photos happen between the posed moments, and that in-between is what I’m watching for.

After ten-plus years photographing people at their most emotional — weddings, milestones, everything in between — I know how to make a session feel easy, including for kids who have zero interest in a camera.

Where Melbourne families love to shoot

Every suburb has a spot that means something to your family — and light I know how to use. Popular choices: your own backyard or living room (underrated, especially with young kids), botanic gardens and parklands, beaches along the bay, and the laneways if you want something more urban. Based in Melbourne’s west, photographing families city-wide.

Spring is family photo season

If you want photos for Christmas cards, framed gifts, or just this-year-while-they’re-this-age, spring is when Melbourne families book — the weather turns, the light gets longer, and the year-end deadlines are close enough to matter. Spring weekends fill first. If you’re thinking about it, get a date locked in early.

FAQ — family photoshoots in Melbourne

How much does a family photoshoot cost in Melbourne?

Session pricing depends on length and location. A 2-hour session is a good start for a small family and starts from $550. Get in touch and you’ll have a clear, all-inclusive quote the same day — no hidden extras, and every edited photo is included rather than sold back to you one by one.

What should we wear?

Comfortable clothes you’d actually wear, in colours that sit well together without matching like a uniform. It is a good idea to dress in the same colour palette. Avoid big logos and brand-new outfits the kids have never moved in. When you book, I send a short guide with examples.

What if our kids won’t cooperate on the day?

They don’t need to. I don’t ask kids to pose — I photograph them playing, and the session is built around their pace, with breaks whenever they need. Some of the best photos in any gallery are of a child doing exactly what they wanted to do instead.

Home, park, or studio?

Wherever your family is most itself. Home sessions suit young children and feel the most personal; outdoor sessions give variety and that golden-hour light. I’ll help you choose based on your kids’ ages and what you want on your walls.

How long until we get our photos?

You’ll have your full edited gallery within a clearly agreed timeframe — told to you before you book, not discovered after. Usually you will have all final edited photos shared as a web gallery within 3 weeks of the photoshoot.

How far ahead should we book?

Spring and pre-Christmas dates go first — a few weeks ahead is safe most of the year, longer for September to December weekends.
